The Italian Language and Culture Centre “TORRE DI BABELE” has been in operation since 1984, offering Italian language courses for foreign students, and training and refresher courses for teachers of Italian as a second language.
Torre di Babele is located in the elegant, central Art Nouveau neighborhood of Rome, near La Sapienza University, the historical Villa Torlonia park and the main railway station, Termini. This is an area of tree-lined streets and parks (Villa Torlonia, Villa Massimo, Villa Ada, Villa Borghese) and is only a few minutes walk from the popular student quarter San Lorenzo, with its pubs, cafes, restaurants, pizzerias and lively nightlife.
The school occupies two floors of a gracious Art Nouveau villa. The fully air-conditioned building is surrounded by a spacious garden where classes may be held outdoors and students can spend their breaks and free time. Thanks to the excellent public transit system serving the area, the city’s major historical sites and commercial areas can be quickly reached. The school is easily accessible from any part of town and is only two metro stops from the main railway station, Termini, and from Tiburtina station (both stations have direct service to Fiumicino International Airport). This very centrally-located yet tranquil area offers an ideal environment in which to study and enjoy the city of Rome off the usual tourist route.
At Torre di Babele students find a wide range of courses and a highly qualified teaching staff combined with a welcoming atmosphere and personalized attention. Our staff helps students feel at home right from the start, offering them all the help they need to make their stay in Rome pleasant, comfortable and interesting.
Torre di Babele is well known for its high quality course offerings, friendly atmosphere and the careful attention given to each student, both in the classroom and by the administrative staff.
All classes are taught in small groups in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Students are offered a wide range of course options from intensive and super-intensive group courses to personally-tailored individual courses.

PREPARATORY COURSE FOR C.I.L.S. EXAM (Certificate of Italian as a Foreign Language)
All our group intensive courses offer a preparation for the C.I.L.S. Exam. However, for a more specific preparation, we suggest the courses taught by our instructors specialized in this area. This course includes 20 hours of individual lessons. The Superintensive “A” and “B” courses also provide an effective preparation for this exam.
This course is designed for people staying in Rome for longer periods of time, and consists of two-hour lessons held twice a week. The non-intensive courses are available from October to June.
Years of experience in the field have enabled the school to offer individual courses which cater perfectly to personal and professional needs at all linguistic levels. Made-to-measure programmes are constructed around students’ specified requirements and are based on their own pace and learning styles.

The Senior Class programme includes the following cultural activities:

A) Professional courses at a culinary school recognized by the Lazio
Chefs’ Association. Three month courses begin in January, April and September.
B) Non-professional courses. Theoretical-practical courses ranging from a few lessons to one or more weeks are offered at the home of the teacher. These courses are held year round, except in the month of August, and must be booked in advance.
Activities and affiliations:
- Production of school's own textbooks, audio tapes and supplementary teaching materials.
- Training and refresher courses for teachers of Italian as a foreign language, offered as part of the LINGUA programme of the European Community.
