Session 1 the project is aimed at artists with severe learning disabilities who have none or limited experience of using painting as a medium of expression. The first session acted as solely an opportunity for free expression through a series of quickfire spontaneous exercises. For example, painting with primary colours with one's non-dominant hand, blindfolded and holding the paintbrush in one's mouth. The actual painting that took place at each activity was restricted to 5 minutes to encourage immediacy and spontaneity. The finished artworks were displayed, compared and contrasted.
