Ayhan DUMAN

I've given up my profession as an Industrial Designer due to my love for photography and fine-art but had to go into commercial filming as a director and advertising photography since I have to eat some decent food from time to time too.

I've been in the commercial field for over twenty years, shooting all sorts of product and fashion shots and finally settled for special F/X ten years ago, creating complex in-camera photo-compositions. This was the time where there were no computers to aid me.

Since 1997 I'm into hi-res digital photography and hi-res imaging, very expensive but all of a sudden everything is a lot easier and more precise. No need for re-shoots or guess work, it's all there...

I don't like the so called computerized look, so my images hardly reveal the typical computer effects but appear natural. At times it's very hard to tell if an image comes out of a digital system or is shot on film.

I've created the "Magical Mystery Torch"© lighting system in 1990, this lighting source creates some very mystical lighting mood, a pseudo-3D effect on a single sheet of film where the soft image is overlayed with a sharp one, the effect being precisely controllable. No computer can achieve this mood, at least not that I know of.
