London / UK-Spain-Italy: three places close to each other with three different languages, cultures and circumstances.
“This project has a beginning but there is no end in sight”THE TRIANGLE focuses mainly on identifying each place’s weaknesses and strengths and the exchange of such information so as to bring about reciprocal benefit:
London / UK gives to Italy what it doesn’t have, Italy to Spain, Spain to UK and so a “chain reaction” comes into effect.
Strengths
Here are a few examples taken from some common observations:
London / UK is:
cosmopolitan, avant-garde in areas concerning social diversity, a world centre in high technology, a platform for scientific research and innovation, flexible in its creation of jobs....
Spain:
is sunny, has naturally cheerful people, fiesta, positive attitude, values public spaces, is positively disposed to new art....
Italy:
enjoys a unique geographical position in Europe, historical and cultural wealth dating back millennia, an immense culinary tradition....Weaknesses to be addressed:
At the same time and thanks to the self-criticism of the inhabitants, we can also say:
London / UK:
is a victim of environmental pollution, it’s inhabitants are very stressed from work, anti-social life-style, is famous for it’s bad weather, sprawls over an enormous area, is crime-ridden....Spain:
suffers from increasing criminal activity, its coastal areas are over-built up....Italy:
suffers from maxi criminality, is culturally isolated, lacks public spaces, has high unemployment....The Triangle envisions:
Internet: the creation of a database which includes a permanent forum of discussion to critically identify the strengths and weaknesses of each place. The website will be constantly updated with new events, ideas and results which have come into effect over time.
The main objective of the TRIANGLE is for the participants (artists, thinkers etc) to keep actively in contact with each other and the public.
Live: The Triangle organises and promotes exhibitions, talks, workshops, fiestas and gatherings of members and citizens.
Residencies: One of our main points of focus is the artists’ residency exchange: “Travel is the great teacher”.
Our most ambitious objective is “THE GREAT EXCHANGE”. An ideal number of 1000 – 3000 people who are all travelling at the same time from one place to the other in a “sudden exodus” for approximately 2 weeks, creating an unforgettable experience for both the hosting citizens as well as for the travellers. An entire city will be invaded by artists and spectators who will imbue it with flavours from far away places.
