North York Moors National Park, the East Coast and the Wolds
– beautiful and tranquil, rich in wildlife, dramatic
views, fossils, unusual rock formations and wildflowers,
including the coastal Cleveland Way – ideal for walking,
cycling and climbing.
• The Deep – the world’s only submarium,
with the story of the world’s oceans on a dramatic
journey back in time and into the future, including the
world’s deepest viewing tunnel, sharkfeeding shows
and diver presentations
• Flamingoland – 375 acre theme park and zoo,
with rides, shows and a zoo with over 1,000 animals, attractions
and activities for everyone
• Beamish, North of England Open Air Museum –
find out all about life in Northern England in 1825 and
1913 at this multi-award-winning Living Museum of the Year
2002, including a town, a home farm, a colliery village,
a manor house, a steam locomotive, a Victorian fairground
and transportation
• Dalby Forest – The Great Yorkshire Forest
with over 8000 acres of woodland, wildlife and scenery to
explore and enjoy. The Forest includes play areas for children,
barbeques and waymarked trails for people of all abilities
• Market days – colourful, weekly street markets
in nearby villages such as Malton, Thornton le Dale, Helmsley
and Pickering
• Whitby – the historic port on the River Esk,
with the ancient abbey which inspired Bram Stoker’s
Dracula.
• York – the famous historic city with medieval
thoroughfares, the largest medieval gothic cathedral north
of the Alps, excellent shopping, boat tours, attractions
including the Yorkshire Museum (2000 years of Yorkshire
heritage), the National Railway Museum, Yorkshire Air Museum,
dungeons and art galleries, Europe’s finest medieval
guild hall and the Jorvik Viking Centre, bringing 10th century
York to life - the trading hub of the Viking world.

or academic purposes.
Teaching
hours per week: 24 hours per week in a group class.
4 hours per week Self Learning with a teacher’s guidance
and assistance.

Timetable/Plan: Mon–Fri 9am-1pm (Group class)
Mon–Thurs 2pm-3pm (Group class)
Mon–Thurs 3pm – 4pm (Self Learning in the Self
Access Centre)
Break:
There will be a 20 minute break in the morning.

Activities & Excursions: Organised afternoon activities
2-4pm three afternoons per week (Friday afternoon free –
for shopping and/or personal sightseeing etc)
Two organised evening activities per week
A full day mid-week excursion (packed lunch and transport
provided)
