Favignana
is the main island of the Egadi Islands (Aegadian Islands).
The archipelago of the Egadi is made up of Favignana (the biggest),
Levanzo and Marettimo, and the smaller islets of Formica, Maraone,
Preveto, Galeotta e Galera. The islands are easily accessible from
Trapani by high-speed jetfoil in 20 minutes or by car-ferry in an
hour. Favignana is a beautiful mediterrenean island surrounded by
crystal clear turquoise sea. It offers an unforgettable experience
to those who treasure nature and tranquility. There are two main
sandy beaches, a small bay south of the town called Cala Azzurra,
and, still in the southern part, the main beach called Lido Burrone.
Also, there are some fantastic rocky bays, Cala Rossa and Cala del
Bue Marino cannot be missed. The island is famous for its ancient
tuna fishing event called "la mattanza" which is held
every year in May/June. It is possible to take a boat out to sea
to view the event. Favignana is shaped like a butterfly. The main
town is located on a narrow strip of land in the middle of the two
"wings", which have quite different characteristics. The
eastern half of the island is largely flat, while the western half
is composed by lots of small hills, the highest is Monte Santa Caterina
(314 m). Favignana, like all the Egadi islands, is part of the largest
protected marine area in Italy, so all three islands are a paradise
for those who love scuba diving.

Levanzo
is the smallest and nearest of the 3 Egadi islands. Part of the
island has been designated a natural marine reserve and a protected
archaeological underwater park for the wreckage of Roman and Carthaginian
ships lost in ancient battles. The small village has 2 bars and
2 excellent restaurants. You can go on excursions round the island
by boat and there are a few companies which offer this service.
Contact Salvatore for more information on (+39) 3397367785. By boat
you can visit the " grotta del genovese", a cave famous
for its paleolithic art which contains paintings of animals and
human figures dating back 10,000 years.

Marettimo
is the second largest of the Egadi Islands. The highest point is
Monte Falcone with a height of 684 m (2,281 ft). There are also
other high montains: Monte Campana 600 m. Monte Scaturro 550 m.
and Monte Lissandro 515 m. Marettimo has lots of remarkable caves
with clear turquoise water. We suggest a visit to the "grotta
del Cammello", the "grotta della Bombarda" and the
"grotta del Presepio". They are accessible only by sea,
so the local fishermen offer a tour service for about 10 Euros per
person.
