The
Amalfi Coast offers a place of rare and spectacular beauty, with
small nice beaches interspaced with coastal summits with breathtaking
views. There are many hiking paths in the area connecting the
beaches and cliff side towns together.
The
various cities and villages along the coast could be compared
to a costellation of which Amalfi is the brightest star. Its praises
have been sung by many poets and famous writers, but it is difficult
to find the right words to do justice to its beauty. The scenary
is unequalled anywhere. It is said to have been founded in 533;
going still further back, according to mythology it was Hercules
that built this city on the spot where he buried his dearly loved
wife Amalfi, and gave it her name to commemorate her.
The
local cuisine extensively features sea-food, but a great variety
of products is offered. Fresh cheeses are great, and You can find
the famous “mozzarella” (made from cow buffalo milk).
And a special attention is given to desserts: from Eastern “pastiera”,
to “zeppole” and “struffoli” on Christmas’
Day. Moreover in Amalfi You can try exclusive wines produced in
the area such as Caruso and Sammarco wines.
The
Amalfi Coast is one of the most exclusive areas in the South of
Italy. It has been chosen by writers, film directors and alike
for its charm and atmosphere. And at dusk you can find your favorite
corner in one of the restaurants along the coast. Positano and
Amalfi are linked to Capri, Naples by a regular ferry service
and to Sorrento by a public bus.
In
addition, from there it is quite easy to reach the other famous
places of the area thanks to the National Roads 163 and 145 which
take to Sorrento, Pompeii, Naples and so on.
